A new Illinois law, HB 1633, mandates that every public school shall include a unit of instruction studying the events of the Native American experience and history within the Midwest and the state. As a result of HB 1633’s implementation, a group of educators recognized a critical need due to a gap in curriculum and took action to organize a professional development event in response through support from a College of Education SEED grant.

Illinois State University is revisiting the conversation about an innovation hub and business incubator. The original plans for a physical space were placed on hold in 2022 after a developer decided not to construct a four-story building in Uptown Normal that would have housed the business incubator among other private businesses.
