Finding the correct download link for the most up-to-date version of Shotcut for your particular operating system is not difficult, as long as you follow these steps:
-
Launch your web browser and go to the following URL:
http://www.shotcut.org/
.
-
Near the top of the
Shotcut.org
home page, click the large
Click to Download
link immediately above the picture of the two computer monitors and speakers. (See
Figure 31
, below.)
-
You are now taken to the
Download
page where you'll need to scroll down to the heading (on the left) beginning with the words "
Current Version
," followed by the two-digit year, a period, the two-digit month, another period, and finally the two-digit day of the month in which the program was released. (In the screenshot shown in
Figure 32
(below), for example, we see that the version of Shotcut we'll be downloading was released in 2018 during the tenth month (i.e., October) on the eighth day.) Since the developers of Shotcut appear to release new versions on a monthly basis, the year, month, and day designations will obviously change over time.
- Depending on the operating system you are using, do
one
of the following:
- If you are using the
64-bit version of Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
, click the link entitled "
64-bit Windows installer
" under the
Site 1 (GitHub)
heading to begin downloading the program. If the 64-bit version of Shotcut will not install on your (Windows) machine or will not run properly, try the similarly-named 32-bit version of the program (again under the
Site 1 (GitHub)
heading). (In either case, if the link under the
Site 1 (GitHub)
heading doesn't work, try the link to the right (under the
Site 2 (FossHub)
heading).)
- If you are using the
64-bit version of Mac OSX 10.10 or higher
, click the link entitled "
macOS dmg
" under the
Site 1 (GitHub)
heading to begin downloading the program. (If the link under the
Site 1 (GitHub)
heading doesn't work, try the link to the right (under the
Site 2 (FossHub)
heading).) If you are running an older version of Mac OSX (i.e., before OSX 10.10), click the "
Older versions
" link (further down the page under the
Other
heading) and try to find an earlier version of the program that will work with your system.
Mac OSX users should pay close attention to the following message direct from the Shotcut developers: "
OS X users: since the application is not signed, you need to control-click the app icon and choose Open from the context menu the first time you run it." |
- While waiting for the program to download,
be sure to read any information posted under the Release Notes heading
further down the page.
- When the download process is complete, go to the location where you saved the file and install the program on your machine.
- After the Shotcut installation routine has finished, the program is ready to be used.
Important:
Do not
click on either the large
Start Download
link or the green
Start the Download
button (as pictured in
Figures 33 and 34
, below) as these will
not
begin the download of Shotcut, as one might expect. Note that while the wording of the large phrase or button might change over time, it should still be obvious that these tactics are intended to misdirect you to other sites that won't have what you want.
